Feeling Green?

I know my usual blog posts are pictures of the fam, but I have been thinking it would be fun to do a discussion board type thing every now and again. I will try it out and see if anyone leaves any comments. If there are no comments, I will spare you all my opinions and stick with the picture thing. (Plese notee-that my grammar needs work and thet i am a teribal speler so just looke past ite o.k.)
My first topic that I wanted to bring up is - The environment. What are some steps that you take to protect our natural resources? And - do you think global warming is just political mumbo-jumbo? Al Gore really pisses me off by acting like everyone who does not agree with him is a complete moron. He actually said that the people that don't agree with him are the people that still think the earth is flat. Fox news recently did a story on how he is shoving global warming down our throats all the while he lives in a HUGE energy sucking mansion and flies around on his private jet that burns hundreds of thousands of gallons of jet fuel. My point is that it is hard to know what to believe about being "green" let alone know what we should actually do. A few months ago I bought "green bags"(cloth bags) at Broulims here in Rexburg, because a little pang of guilt hits me every time I bring plastic bags home and then casually toss them in the garbage like it doesn't matter. Something tells me it does matter- but I think it is sad that this is the extent of my "greenness". I want to do more, do you?
What say YOU?

I stopped buying bottled water, and just reuse my own water bottles. I haven't bought the grocery bags yet, but do have that pang of guilt. However my choices have nothing to do with AL Gore.

Gore needs someone to beat him with a green baseball bat. global warming. he didn't spend the 07-08winter in IDAHO. what a moron. although we should all be good stewards of what we have. we are getting to be pretty good at getting all the pizza we can eat then not eating it and going back for more.

Holly I like this idea of having a sounding board it's very progressive! I don't have much to say about Al because I think his head is in the clouds and he likes the fame and attention this whole inconvient truth has brought him too much. I do wish we around here recycled more. In Canada they have made it very conveinent to do and they pay you back for it but I don't even know one person here who saves their pop cans or where to take them to if I did. I'm going to buy those bags @ broulims though - It's time to do a few little things like that for sure, but I don't think it merits the mass panic attacks brought on by the likes of Al.

We've seen people like Al Gore. Chicken Little, for instance. Or those crazy Hawaiians that use to throw virgins into Volcanoes because their chickens stopped laying eggs or it rained too much. Or Senator McCarthy is another example of a guy trying to get a political advantage by exploiting people's fears. You should start a website that does two things: tracks Al's "environmental footprint" and also tracks whether he pays that extra 15% tax voluntarily that he wanted to make us all pay had he gotten elected.

Jenniho-
Rexburg put some recycle bins out in front of Broulims last year and I guess that is one other thing we have been doing is taking our old newspapers to those bins.. Joe just asked me if I wrote that I just bought a gas-guzzling SUV. Nope- didn't mention that. He wanted me to get a Prius (sp)?. I just couldn't do it. I guess I am a hypocrite aren't I.

Todd-
I agree about the fear thing. Fear sells tv ads and newspapers I guess. It seems like not only politians but every avenue of media - exploits our fears. So am I just being gullible wanting to be "green"?

Last summer I rode my bike to work everyday and I felt like it was not only good for me but good for the enviornment as well. I guess it dosen't mean much if you don't stick with it though - The weather gets bad and I'm right back in my car.

N & K-
Way to make me feel like a bad mom for letting my kid waste food, I was hoping no one noticed. Thanks.
I am just as guilty as Syd-just not with food. Joe reminded me the other day that if we(me) stopped buying unnecessary crap that we don't need (dollar store, wally world) that gets shipped in from China or where ever... we would all have a lot less waste, and I wouldn't waste $$$. Now I know that I really need to take that advice.
